Finding the art in empathy

Throughout my career, I never stopped learning that stunning visual aesthetics are only as powerful as their ability to drive user behavior. Already having an extensive background in marketing design, the foundations for connecting with your audience were pre-established, so it was only natural when I directed these skills into my career in user experience. Understanding how to guide user behavior with principled interactions and captivating visual queues is one of the more fulfilling challenges in my design career.

In today’s culture, job seekers are looking for fast and unique ways to simplify their job hunting and applying process. Arya Muse is a social platform that allows job seekers to create fully customized profiles, that detail their measured qualifications, character qualities as well as personal interests. Candidates could then share this profile with hiring managers in place of a traditional resume. No other app like this existed, and I lead the way in designing a service that was fully immersive, easy-to-use, and accessible on any device they’re on like tablets and mobile phones for their on-the-go needs.

Gone are the ways of traditional interviews as we’ve known them and in this new era of communication, hiring managers and candidates are relying more on innovative ways to connect with each other. With competitor research, user feedback, and my design guidance, I led the product team to create a tool that would solve this problem, allowing recruiters and hiring managers to easily create a format of precomposed questionnaires that gave the candidates and managers the freedom to conduct interviews at their leisure.

Jotter

Lenovo

Jotter was a note-taking application that was to be preinstalled on Lenovo’s line of Chromebook PCs. I was tasked with working with the newly created Chrome BU team to design and construct an effortless tool for users to not just jot notes but to tap into innovative features never before conceived for any other note-taking app on the market. These features included actionable dictations like making phone calls, sending emails, and creating calendar events with simple swipes of each written note. The Jotter app was to showcase Lenovo’s new line of pen-enabled products that would compete with similar brands on the market.

NoteSaver

Lenovo

Similar to Jotter the NoteSaver app was also and preinstalled pen-enabled application on the Levono Chromebooks. However, unlike Jotter, NoteSaver’s feature offerings were much more immersive. The design that I wanted to introduce for this application was one that would allow for quick navigation between notepads and the pages within them. The model users I was keeping in mind were those who rely on the notes they take daily as well as needing to have quick access to their personal software, so most of my own research was based on student and researcher interactions.

Vantage Assist

Lenovo

Vantage was the name of the Lenovo settings and diagnostic application built into all Lenovo PCs. Within this application was an added feature called Vantage Assist which offered unique calendaring services that synced with the user’s personal Google and Microsoft accounts to provide a wider range of user engagement offerings. For this, my priority was mostly directing our developers to ensure that our quality of UI consistency was maintained for this feature. Providing accurate design assets and specifications was my part in assuring this level of standards.

NerveCenter Hardware Settings

Lenovo

Within Lenovo’s Vantage hardware settings were advanced settings geared specifically for the gaming line of Lenovo PCs. Keeping the gamers who would utilize these settings in mind, the aim for me was to offer the best solution for the users to access these settings quickly and adjust easily. I worked closely with the Lenovo Gaming Divison and reaches out to the Lenovo gaming community to devise workflow strategies to appropriately address this functionality. In addition, I researched ways to keep users engaged in the application by introducing options for users to view online media within the app or upload their own content which proved to be very successful.

NerveCenter UI User Feedback

Lenovo

NerveCenter, the hardware settings app for the gaming PCs was long overdue for a redesign leading up to me being tasked to freshen it up. While still adhering to Vantage’s UI framework I wanted to direct the redesign process by reaching out to the game community for their valuable input since they were our target audience. Listening to their feedback drove my design concepts that inevitably led to the final design.

BD Advance & Muni Dashboards

Ipreo

Big Dough (BD) was and still is Ipreo’s flagship product that upon my start at the organization was in need of a major design overhaul. I was entrusted to guide the product design along with my teammates to better communicate the vast amount of data that was being poured into it. Introducing innovative design techniques, data visualizations, a style guide system, and CMS tools to help increase the speed of design implementation.

BD Apps UI Specifications (pt. 1)

Ipreo

As part of a full design process, for any application or website that I work on it is vital to translate the designs I produce into accurate specifications for developers to construct the UI with minimal effort. This is also to establish design consistency across all other applications that both the developers and fellow designers can adhere to.
